FAQs
Why see a functional medicine provider?
According to the Institute for Functional Medicine, “Functional medicine is a systems-biology-based approach to healthcare that seeks to identify and treat the root causes of disease by viewing the body as an interconnected system. It is a holistic and personalized approach that considers a patient’s unique genetics, lifestyle, environment, and other factors to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.” This approach allows us to focus on the root cause of symptoms and illness, while providing personalized, patient-centered care.
What type of conditions do functional medicine providers typically treat or see?
Functional medicine providers can help with many symptoms or concerns of health, along with health optimization. Examples of potential symptoms include hormonal concerns, autoimmune disorders (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, arthritis, etc.), digestive issues (irritable bowel syndrome, heartburn, inflammatory bowel disease, constipation and diarrhea), metabolic concerns (diabetes, weight changes, cardiovascular disease), as well as health optimization (prevent chronic disease and live your best life).
Does At the Root serve as primary care?
At the Root will not be serving as a primary care provider. We would like you to use your insurance coverage for routine annual physical exams and other covered benefits. We would be happy to see you to discuss other concerns and/or to focus on health optimization. We can help recommend a primary care provider if that service is needed.
Does At the Root accept insurance?
At the Root does not accept insurance. We value spending time with patients and getting the most out of the money spent during an office visit with us. To be sure that both of these values are met, we have decided to not accept insurance or be considered in network with insurance companies. Every visit will generate a superbill, which you can submit to insurance for possible reimbursement. We would recommend you discuss this with your insurance carrier prior to a visit with us if this is a necessity for you to seek care with us. Additionally, we will accept flexible spending account and healthcare spending account money as a form of payment, if allowed by your insurance.
